The Effect of Response Set Size on the Stroop Interference

چکیده
Previous research on the effect of response set size on the interference resulting from processing in the Stroop task – a paradigmatic test of executive control – brought equivocal conclusions. In the present paper, we analyze what predictions regarding this effect should be drawn from the most influential computational models of the Stroop as well as from our own new model. Then we test these predictions in an experiment, by manipulating response set size as well as the stimuli/response set sizes proportion, finding both evidence in favor of our model and data which is not explained by any

Neuropsychological Decomposing Stroop Interference Into Different Cognitive Monitoring; An Exploratory Factor Analysis
Introduction: There are two alternative explanations of the Stroop phenomenon. Several studies have revealed that the difference in performance on congruent and incongruent trials can arise from response interference. On the contrary, many authors have claimed that Stroop interference might occur at earlier processing stages related to semantic or conceptual encoding. The present study aims to ...
متن کاملWorking Memory Load and the Stroop Interference Effect
Although the effect of working memory (WM) load on the degree of distractor processing has been investigated in a number of paradigms, a common feature in prior research is that the target and distractors pertain to different objects. The present experiments examine the effect of WM load on distractor interference when the relevant and irrelevant features belong to the same object. In Experimen...

Objectives: The aim of the present research is to analyze the predictability of suicide attempt, based on attentional bias in clinical and non-clinical population. Materials and Methods: 120 participants (77 females and 43 males) have been intentionally selected in three diagnostic groups: clinical suicides, clinical non-suicides and non-clinical ones (40 individuals in each group). They pa...
متن کاملA meta-analysis of response inhibition and Stroop interference control deficits in adults with traumatic brain injury (TBI).
The prominent clinical feature of behavioral impulsivity following traumatic brain injury (TBI) suggests impairment of frontal inhibitory control processes. This meta-analysis consolidates the recent surge in studies across two forms of "effortful" inhibition, employing well-defined paradigms of response inhibition (N = 20; i.e., go/no-go, sustained attention to response, stop-signal, Conners' ...
متن کاملPractice and colour-word integration in Stroop interference
Congruency effects were examined using a manual response version of the Stroop task in which the relationship between the colour word and its hue on incongruent trials was either kept constant or varied randomly across different pairings within the stimulus set. Congruency effects were increased in the condition where the incongruent hue-word relations were maintained. This effect was observed ...
